Steel - making of it? Flashcards
What is hot rolling and cold rolling?
They are two methods used to shaping adn forming the metal products while they are either hot or cold.
Describe hot rolling
Hot rolling is a metalworking process used to shape, or form metal products while they are in a heated, pliable state. It is one of the most common mehtods for producing steel products sush as sheets, plates, bars and structural sections.
The metal is heated to high temperature, typically above the recrystallization temperature to form it.
The heated metal is then shaped between large rollers by using pressure.
Then the metal is cooled down and it has new grains.
Describe cold rolling
Cold rolling is a metalworking process used to chape or form metal products at room temperature or even below. It is commonely used to produce steel products such as sheets, strips, and bars with tighter dimensional tolerance and smoother surface finish than hot rolling.
Metals that already has unergone hot rolling ir now further processed. It passes through rollers, applying pressure to achieve further thickness reduction and improve dimensional accuracy.
What does it mean with the steels cleanliness?
At which level the steel is clean form pollutants, since they can affects the steel negatively.
