Q

According to Peter Stearns in globalisation in world history, how did Arabs emerge as trans regional world leaders?

A

1) Arab conquest through the Middle East and North Africa, into Spain and Central Asia, provided a large territorial base that helped link the Mediterranean and India ocean trade routes
2) There was a high valuation of trade and merchant endeavour in the Islamic world. (Mohammed himself a trader) Merchant wealth enabled to charitable activity and financed pilgrimage to Mecca. Expansion of trade trade directly encouraged missionary activity
3) A new language, Swahili, mixed Arabic and African (Bantu) tongues with some Persian words, emerged. A clear sign of how culture compliments consistent commercial change
