3
Q

What is the purpose of the feed water area isolating valve and when is it used

A

The feed water isolating valve isolates the boiler drain system from the mud drum blowdown tank
It is used whenever the boiler is hydroed, filled, or isolated for a major outage.

9
Q

What is the differance between a TRS excursion and a violation

A

Excursion - TRS 12hr average finishes above permit

Violation - when the 3rd excursion occurs within a calendar quarter

10
Q

What can happen if the steam trap is not operating correctly

A

Stuck closed - condensate can fill the header leading to possible smelt water reaction inside the furnace
Stuck open - steam is continually wasted, High cost

16
Q

What is the differance between operating sootblowers in modicon mode versus computer mode

A

Modicon - blow in numerical order

Computer - by recipe ( normal)

17
Q

If the secondary windbox pressure needs to be raised or lowered, how should it be done

A

Change the splits (%)
Or
Increase the total air

18
Q

What happens if the air flow is allowed to get too low while burning oil or liquor

A

Boiler will trip on low air flow

Will flame out

19
Q

Describe the procedures for putting the steam coil air heater(SCAH) in and out of service

A

….

20
Q

What is normal economizer exit flue gas temperature

A

675 - 650 (IN)

400 (out)

21
Q

Why not operate the furnace draft higher or lower than target

A

Low - trip ID fan out on speed

High - cause boiler to blow back

22
Q

What is target for furnace draft

A
  • 0.3
23
Q

Where is the furnace draft reading taken

A

Furnace draft tap is located in the upper furnace on the north boiler wall opposite the screen and sends its signal to TDC group 1

24
Q

How is furnace draft controlled

A
  • 0.3

Controls ID fan speed

25
Q

What is furnace draft

A

Suction on the boiler

26
Q

Explain the shutdown procedures for the ID fan

A
Put auxiliary oil pump in manual
Slow fan down to 350 rpm
Hand trip fan
Close and lock inlet steam valve
Close outlet steam valve
Open condensate drains
Cut off steam lance to rotor
Close and lock header valve on 600 psi header deck
Make sure equalizing valve is also closed
27
Q

Explain the startup procedures for the ID fan

A
Open equalizing valve
Startup auxiliary oil pump
Open outlet steam valve at ID fan
Back warm turbine or 1.5 hours
Open the 600psi header valve
Close equalizing valve
Close condensate drains at ID fan
28
Q

During maintenance mode why is the air to liquor put in auto

A

It will be to low of air flow to keep it burning right

29
Q

What is the minimum black liquor flow required to burn black liquor without fuel oil ( oil burners )

A

105 mpph

Which is about 30 mcr

30
Q

What is the process for washing the liquor system

A

….

31
Q

What should you check if burner pressure goes high on one liquor gun but is normal in the other

A

Plugged nozzle or hose

Bad pressure transmitter

32
Q

What does “high drum” mean

A

Steam drum has more water than steam

33
Q

What does “low drum” mean

A

Steam drum is low on water

34
Q

Which water level indicating device initiates the high drum trip

A

The main water column 2 min delay timer
