What are the symptoms of STDs in general
- in women
- in men
A
Dysuria
Itching, burning genitals
Blisters, sores, spots, lumps around genitals, anus
In women
- yellow, green smelly vaginal discharge
- bleeding between periods/during sex
- dyspareunia
- lower abdo pain
In men
- urethral irritation
- penile discharge

What happens when you visit an STI clinic
A
By appointment/drop in
- service is confidential, parents and GP not notified
- results can be sent by phone, unmarked letters

What tests would you do
A
Urine, blood, urethral/genital swab for -chlamydia -herpes -syphilis -gonorrhoea -HIV If you test positive, will be asked to return to discuss results
Most can be cured with ABx, HIC can only be managed
- encouraged to tell partner to get tested too
- but if you don’t want to, the clinic can do it for you (partner notification, clinic won’t reveal who you are)
