What are typical local symptoms of STDs?
Dysuria
Rash
Ulceration
Pain
Lumps
Tenesmus

What are typical systemic symptoms of STDs?
Rash
Fever
Lymphadenopathy
Jaundice
Arthropathy
Eye problems

What is the six point plan?
- Accurate diagnosis
- Look for and exclude other genital pathogens
- Effective treatment
- Test of cure
- Contact tracing
- Patient education and counselling
Why have chlamydia numbers risen?
More testing in community with NAATs = more accurate numbers
Why have gonorrhoea numbers risen?
New testing (NAATs)
Pharynx and rectal testing
Increased number of sexual partners in MSM individuals
Why have genital herpes numbers risen?
NAATs testing which is more accurate
Why have genital warts numbers decreased?
Vaccine programme - decrease in transmission
Why have syphilis numbers risen?
Increase number of sexual partners in MSM individuals
Resistance to azithromycin
