What is included in an STI panel? (serum)
syphilis, HIV, Hep B & C
urine sample or swabbing of MM tests for:
chylamydia (CT) or gonorrhoeae (NG)
what do we do with an active lesion?
swab for HSV and syphilis
how is HPV usually treated?
liquid nitrogen for genital warts
how is HSV commonly treated?
oral antiviral to treat outbreak
describe treatment for the two types of hepatitis
Hep B - usually recovers on its own, Hep C- specialized treatment clinic
when should someone be tested for STBBIs right away?
after sexual assault, symptoms, exposed to someone with an STBBI, before and during pregnancy, and if barrier fails and there are concerns
who should be tested q 3-6 months?
active with new/multiple/anonymous partners, or if they or their partner uses injection drugs or shares drug use equipment
how is chlamydia trachomatis treated?
doxycycline PO for 7 days OR axithromycin PO single dose
How is gonorrhoaea treated?
ceftriaxone IM single dose plus azithromycin PO single dose for anogenital and pharyngeal infectins, OR cefixime PO plus azithromycin PO for anogenital infections
how do we treat syphillis?
for infectious: long-acting benzathine pen G IM- one dose.
For latent: same thing but give 3 doses weekly
pt education for treating bacterial STIs
- return to clinic if they vomit in first hour
- abtain from sex for 7 days after tx
-partner notification - retesting or test of cure
-safer sex teaching - avoid sex if lesions or symptoms present
what are first tier recommendations for birth control?
LARCs such as copper IUD, IUS, subdermal progestin implant
