Required by law, funded by the Government
What are the 5 categories of Statutory Services?
Armed, Emergency, Custodial, Support and Non-Uniformed Statutory
What is the overall purpose of the emergency services
Respond to incidents, Prevent incidents
What is the overall purpose of the armed services?
Defending the UK, Humanitarian aid, Uk and abroad peacekeeping
What is the role of the Police?
Protect life and property, keep the kings peace, maintain public order and safety, enforce the law, prevent detect and investigate criminal activities.
What is the overall purpose of the custodial services?
Rehabilitate offenders, keep prisoners safe, Lock up offenders sent by the courts
What is the role of the NHS
Provide healthcare facilities to diagnose, treat and help UK Citizens
What is the role of local authorities
To ensure local areas run smoothly and have all the facilities they need E.G. education, social services, environmental protection, road and traffic planning. Providing social housing.
What is the role of central government
To run the country, make decisions, to control finances, hold service’s accountable, create laws
What is meant by the term non-statutory
Not required by law, some receive government funding but many are charities or self-funded

St John Ambulance, RNLI, Utilities Companies
Explain the purpose of non statutory public services
Provide services statutory services cannot, Support statutory services, Encourage partnership working, Help the public in emergencies
