stats unit 3 Flashcards
Simple random sample
putting all of the names into a hat then randomly give everybody a number and generate a list of numbers 1.label 2 RNG 3.,compare
strata
dividing all populations into sub populations then take a random sample from all the populations
cluster
representatives are closer at random for each cluster. Then a census is done on that cluster. Census ‘s must be done on the ENTIRE POPULATION
Multistage
any combination of. the samples ( SRS, Strata,Cluster, etc)
Systematic
chose a random starting point and select individuals systematically from a sample
bias
any systematic failure of a sampling method
voluntary reaponse
the only people to participate, and the ones that are volunterring too
undercoverage
when the sampleing frame is too limited
non response
trying to give a survey but people refuse or no do not or can respond, most of the responded are motivated
convenience
to simple of a frame, not being rigorous
multistage
many of these bias are mutually exclusive and situations that cause them will often times overlap
observational study’s
a study based on past and future data in which no manipulation of factors have been employed
retrospective study
“past study” where subjects are selected and previous data is looked at
prospective study
“future study” in which subjects are selected to observe future outcomes
matching
a technique to reduce variability’s, used with similar characteristics that may be matched together
