Population
Every member of a group taken together.
Sample
Part of a population used to make prediction about the whole population.
Descriptive Statistics
Summarizing what is known about every member of a group.
Inferential Statistics
Making population about a population based on data from sample.
Context
The “who” (sample) and “what” (variables of a study)
Variable
Information collected from a sample.
Quantitative Variable
Variable that is measurable/counted has units.
Categorical Variable
Variable that sorts objects into types of categories.
Frequency
Number of time something occurs.
Pie Chart
Based on percentage
Bar Chart
Height of the bar depends on frequency.
Relative Frequency
Another word for percentage (part divided by the whole)
Two-Way Table
Table that shows the frequency on individuals falling into categories on 2 or more variables.
Marginal Distribution
Relative Frequency of a variable for all categories.
