Stats - model for improvement Flashcards
What is the Model for Improvement?
When was it first published and what are the 2 parts?
The model for improvement was first published in 1992. The model consists of two parts that are of equal importance. The first, the ‘thinking part’, consists of three fundamental questions that are essential for guiding improvement work. The second part, the ‘doing part’, is made up of Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) cycles that will help you make rapid change.
What are the 3 fundamental questions we must consider when looking to achieve improvement?
1) what are we trying to accomplish?
2) How will we know if the change is an improvement?
3) What changes can we make that can lead to an improvement?
What is the PDSA cycle?
Plan
Do
Study
Act
The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle is a widely used method in quality improvement processes within healthcare, including psychiatry. It provides a structured framework for testing changes and implementing improvements in clinical practice.
It is ITERATIVE i.e it is repeated multiple times to continuously refine and improve processes
What are 5 key features of PDSA cycles?
1) Iterative cycles i.e repeated multiple times
2) prediction-based plan of change
3) Small-scale testing
4) Use of data over time
5) Documentation
