STATS CORE 1 Flashcards
ATIS - Life expectancy: Infant mortality rate: Diabetes: Smoking (risk behavior): Psychological distress: CVD mortality:
Life expectancy: - 10 years
Infant mortality rate: 3 x higher
Diabetes: 3 x more likely to be diagnosed
Smoking (risk behavior): 2.7 x more likely to smoke.
Psychological distress: 2.7 x more likely
CVD mortality: 2 x death
Socioeconomically disadvantaged -
Smoking (risk behavior):
Obesity:
CVD incidence:
Diabetes mortality rate:
Smoking (risk behavior): 2.3 x more likely to smoke
Obesity: 1/3 more of women
CVD mortality: 2.1 x mortality, 2.2 incidence.
Diabetes mortality: 2x more likely to die.
National Tobacco Strategy Success
2012 - 2018: smokers dropped by 100,000.
- success equal amongst all socioeconomic groups.
‘Close The Gap’
Aim: to achieve health equality for ATSI by 2030.
Groups at risk of cancer
ATSI: Stage 4 cancer is more prevalent.
Elderly: Weaker immune system, insufficient DNA repair. - Lung cancer: (80-85% more likely)
Males: 20 x more likely.
Smokers: 10 x more likely to develop cancer.
Most common cancer for men
prevalence
prostate, colorectal (rectum), skin, lung
Most common cancer or women
prevalence
breast, colorectal, skin, lung.
Cancer Trends
Lung cancer highest mortality for both genders.
Increasing as: people are living longer + population is increasing.
Death rates falling for both genders; more rapidly for men.
Lung cancer is the second leading cause of death for both genders.
Cardiovascular disease
Circulatory disease that causes a NARROWING, BLOCKAGE or HARDENING of blood vessels.
Mortality for CVD (general)
Leading cause of death
Mortality and morbidity decreasing for both genders.
Groups at risk for CVD STAT
ATSI - 2 x more likely to die, 1.6 x higher incidence
Socioeconomically disadvantaged 2.1 x dying
2.2 x more incidence
Remote areas: 1.4 x mortality
Elderly: burden increases post 45 year
Define diabetes
A chronic disease that affects the bodies ability to absorb glucose into the body.
Hyp;/er: inability to regulate and use insulin.
Hypo: inability to produce a sufficient amount of insulin for blood levels.
Chronic
Stats for diabetes prevelance/ mortality
Prevalence doubled
Mortality rates are steady.
Groups at risk for diabetes.
ATSI: 3 x higher
Socio econ 2x more likely to die.
More common in men.
More prevalent among elderly: 15% of people above 65.
