Linear Interpolation
(Beginning of group) + ((However far into group) / (Frequency of group) × (Class width))
Conditions under which the Binomial Distribution can be approximated by a Normal Distribution
n must be large
p must be close to 0.5
Simple Random Sampling
- Allocate each member of the population a unique number
- For this you will need a sampling frame (a list of the items in the population)
- Now select numbers at random
Systematic Sampling
- The elements are chosen at regular intervals from an ordered list (e.g Choose every 10th item if you want your sample to be 10% of the population)
- The 1st item must be chosen randomly
Stratified Sampling
- The population is divided into mutually exclusive groups
- A random sample is taken from each group in proportion to the size of the group
Quota Sampling
- Select a sample and reflect the characteristics of the population
- The population is divided into different groups according to a characteristic
- Interview people and decide which group they are in, continue until all quotas filled
Opportunity (Convenience) Sampling
- A sample is taken from anyone who is available at the time of the study and meets the required criteria
Test Statistic
A statistic that is calculated from sample data in order to test a hypothesis about a population
Product Moment Correlation Coefficient
Linear association between two variables
Hypothesis Test
A statistical test that is used to determine whether there is enough evidence in a sample of data to infer that a certain condition is true for the entire population
Critical Value
The point (or points) on the scale of the test statistic beyond which we reject the null hypothesis
