Statistics Cards Flashcards
Null Hypothesis
Statement of the status quo, one of no difference or effect
Alternate Hypothesis
One in which something is different or effect is expected
Mean
Average of responses
Mode
A measure of central tendency given as the value that occures the most in the sample distribution
Median
A measure of central tendency given as the value above which half of the values fall and below which half of the values fall
Range
Indicative of breadth of response - dif between smallst and largest
Variance
How Similar or different datapoitns are
Standard Deviation
Variance expressed in the units of information presented
Interquartile Range
Midspread/middle fifty - measure of dispersion between upper and lower quartiles
Chi-Square
Statistic used to test the statistical significance of the assocation between two variables in cross tabulation.
Contingency Coefficient
The measure of strength of assocation in a table of any size (0 to 1)
Chi-Squared Distribution
A skewed distribution whose shape epends on the number of degrees of freedom (more freedom more symmetrical)
Pearson Correlation / R / Product Moment Correlation
Summary of the strength between X and Y- degree to which variation in one causes variation in another.
R-Squared
Measures the proportion of variation in one variable that is explained by the other. (HOW WELL does the Model fit)
Regression Analysis
Used to show:
Existence of a relationship
Strength of Relationship
Relationship between independent and dependent variables
model of assocation
determine contribution of variable by controlling other variable
