Statistics Flashcards
What is discrete data ?
Can you give some examples?
Data that is whole numbers and cannot be split up
Shoe size
Number of something
What is continuous data and can you give some examples?
Measurements at all points including decimals
Height (150.7cm)
Distance
What is class width ?
The difference between the lower and upper class boundary
What is the midpoint of the class ?
Middle between beginning and end of class
How do you work out IQR ?
IQR=UQ-LQ
What do the question for frequency density ?
Frequency divided by class width
How do you work out frequency ?
Frequency density X class width
On a histogram what goes up the side and what goes along the bottom ?
Bottom = class width Up the side = frequency density
Each bar represents frequency
What goes along the bottom and up the side of a cumulative frequency graph ?
Bottom = length/class width Up the side = cumulative frequency
The curve should form an “s” shape or be a curve of some degree or go flat at a point
What do you discuss when comparing box plots ?
Median
Inter quartile range
Full range between LQ and UQ (bigger range = less consistent)
What is a four point moving average ?
You add up four quarters and divide by four and continue along the quarters knocking one off each time
