Statistics Flashcards
Relative Frequency
How often something happens divided by all outcomes.
Are calculated by dividing the frequencies for each option by the total number of frequencies for all options. Represented as fractions, decimals or percentages.
Category
Type of data that can be grouped into categories (ex. Types of cars, gender, political parties)
Data
The information that is recorded and used in statistics
Frequency
The number of times the observation has occurred.
Ex. The number of times heads was flipped on a coin toss.
Data values
Categorized Data
Equally likely outcomes
Each outcome of an experiment occurs with equal probability.
Ex. If you roll a die, each side is as likely as the others to land face up.
Event
An outcome resulting from an experiment
Heads or Tails
2 options and each are equally likely. Heads on one side and tails on the other
Coin toss
2 options and each are equally likely.
Heads and tails
Roll of a die
Rolling a die to see which number is face up when it lands. Each number has a 1/6 chance of appearing
Spinning a spinner
The probability of landing on a specific section of an evenly divided circle
Law of large numbers
Independent trials
