Statistics Flashcards
Sampling Error
Characteristic of sample differs from population
This is a random error and will occur from even well chosen samples
Measurement Error
Defers to inaccuracies in measurement of data
An example is measuring height to the nearest cm instead of mm
This also refers to questions in a non neutral tone
Coverage Errors
When a sample does not actually reflect the population
To avoid this samples need to be longer and unbiased
Non-Response errors
When a large number of people do not respond to a survey
E.g. the elderly online ir satisfied customers
Simple Random Sampling
Designate every member of population a number
Use a random number generator to select
Infinity many as you want in the sample
If a number repeats, draw again
Systematic Sampling
Order the population by a data category
Select members to sample at regular intervals
E.g. sampling cars yhrough an intersection
Convenience Sampling
Chose a sample of people likely to respond
Chose hy, not on phone, easy to engage
Stratified Sampling
Divide Population into subgroups
Choose an amount from each subgroup proportionally to their size stratified
What different types of Sampling are there?
Stratified Sampling
Convenience Sampling
Systematic Sampling
Simple Random Sampling
