Statistics Flashcards
Which type of ANOVA is used for a BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS design?
Independent ANOVA
remember the participants are independent of each other
Which type of ANOVA is used for a WITHIN PARTICIPANT design?
Repeated measures ANOVA
Remember they repeat the conditions
ANOVAs determine where the variation in data comes from using the F-ratio.
If F < 1 what does this mean?
Unsystematic variance outweighs systematic variance
Test will NEVER be significant
ANOVAs determine where the variation in data comes from using the F-ratio.
If F > 1 what does this mean?
Systematic variance outweighs the unsystematic variance.
The larger the ratio (or difference) the more likely that the test WILL be significant
Why is a repeated-measures ANOVA more powerful than an independent ANOVA?
Because a within participants design removes error variance/unsystematic variance which is due to individual differences.
