Statistical Vocab Flashcards
A graph that uses Xs above a number line to show data; line plots are useful for showing how data is grouped.
Line plot
A question that can have a variety of answers and can be used to make a prediction about a larger group.
Statistical question
Shows how spread out or how clustered data values are.
Distribution
the sum of all the values divided by the number of values.
Mean
The middle number in a data set when all the values are listed from least to greatest.
Median
The number that appears most often in a data set.
Mode
A five-number summary that includes the minimum, the lower quartile, the median, the upper quartile, and the maximum; shown graphically next to a number line.
Box Plot
The middle number of all values less than the median.
Lower quartile
The middle number of all values greater than the median.
Upper Quartile
The difference between the greatest and least values in a data set.
Range
The difference between the lower and upper quartiles
(IQR) Interquartile Range
A data point far away from the other data points; It doesn’t quite fit with the rest of the data points
