Statistical Tests Flashcards
What is a critical value?
A value you compare to in a table
What is an observed value?
The value you obtain from your results.
What is a parametric test?
These are more powerful tests that can only be used on data which passes three criteria.
What is a non parametric test?
Tests that can be used on ordinal (ranked) data.
What is nominal data?
Data in categories
What is ordinal data?
Data which is ranked or on a rating scale but without intervals.
What is interval data?
Data which is on a regular scale.
What is a skewed distribution?
A frequency distribution in which the scores are not evenly distributed.
What is a degree of freedom?
The number of values that are free to vary given that total values are known.
What statistical tests are used for nominal data?
If independent groups design is used, then Chi-Squared. If repeated measures, then the sign test.
What statistical tests are used with ordinal data?
If independent groups design is used, then Mann-Whitney U test. If repeated measures, the Wilcoxen test. If correlational, the Spearman’s Rho.
What statistical tests are used with interval data?
If independent groups, the Unrelated t-test. If repeated measures, the related t-test. If correlations, the Peason’s R.
