Statistical Inference Flashcards
Questions from https://www.coursera.org/learn/statistical-inference/
What are two rules does a Probability Density Function (PDF) always obey?
- Probability greater than zero.
2. Area under the curve is 1.
What is a cumulative distribution function F(x) in a PDF
The area of the curve c(x) between 0 and x.
What does the value of 95th percentile (say T95) mean?
95% of the population is below T95 and 5% is above. In other words, if a take a random variable, the probability that it is lesser than T95 is 0.95.
What is the difference between sample of population
Example - average height of men. Impossible to consider all men (population). We we take a sample set.
What is statistical inference in terms of sample and population?
Statistical Inference is linking the sample to the population, while making some assumptions. For example, sample median (estimator) will estimate the population median (estimand)
