Statisitical Studies Flashcards
Sample Survey
Asks every member of the sample the same set of questions and records the answers (word problems with, “asks”)
Experiment
Involves applying treatment to some group or groups and measuring the affects of the treatments, (word problems that use, “tries out”)
Observational Study
Measure or observe members of a sample in such a way that they are not affected by the study (uses words like, “counts”)
Stratified Sampling
When a population is divided into groups with similar characteristics and a sample is randomly chosen from each group.
Cluster Sampling
When a population divided into convenient clusters, and random people from that cluster are chosen at random as a sample
Systematic Sampling
When you start with one member chosen at random then use a rule like, “every 3rd member will be chosen.” To select members for the sample.
Convenience Sampling
Only choosing people that are easy to get to our close to you
Self-selected sampling
Volunteers opt to help for your sample
Care MUST be taken to avoid bias
Stratified Sampling, Cluster Sampling, Systematic Sampling
High Risk of Bias
Convenience Sampling, Self-selected sampling
