Static Electricity Flashcards
What happens to electrically charged objects?
Electrically charged objects can attack and repel other objects like in magnets
The types of charges?
There are positive and negative charges.
a)Positive and negative charges attract
b)Positive and positive charges repel
c)Negative and negative charges repeal
What are the values of attraction and repulsion for magnetic poles?
Like poles repel and unlike poles attract
What happens to the polythene rod when rubbed using a cloth?
When the polythene rod is rubbed using the cloth, the rod gains a negative electric charge. It is the force of friction that charges the rod.
What happens to the material when rubbed?
One material gains a positive charge the other a negative charge
What are conductors and insulators of electricity?
- Conductors conduct electrical current
- Insulators oppose the electrical current
What are the wires made of?
Metals such as copper typify conductors, while most non-metallic solids are said to be good insulators, having extremely high resistance to the flow of charge through them
What are metals described as?
Metals are described as conductors because they allow electricity to pass through them
Examples of insulators?
Plastic and other non-metals are described as insulators because they do not allow electricity to pass through them
Use of circuit diagrams?
Circuit diagrams show how different components are connected together in an electric circuit
How to check for the electrical current?
1) If the lamp lights up, there is a current
2)A brighter lamp shows a bigger current
How is electric current measured?
Electric current is measured with an ammeter
What’s the unit of electricity?
The unit of electric current is the amp
