Static Electricity Flashcards
1
Q
What is a conductor?
A
A material that allows charge (usually electrons) to flow through it
2
Q
What is an insulator?
A
A material that has no free charges and does not allow the flow of charge through it
3
Q
What is charging by friction
A
- When objects are given a charge by rubbing them with another object
- if the object is an insulator, it will keep its charge afterwards
4
Q
What happens when the two objects are rubbed together
A
- one of them will gain electrons and gain a negative charge
- one of them will lose electrons and gain a positive charge
5
Q
What are examples of dangers of static electricity
A
- electrocution
- fire or explosion
