2
Q

what are the stages of lightning

A

electrons and protons rearrange in the cloud due to too many electrons and the attraction towards the ground (positive charge). the electrons move towards the clouds and are released from the cloud in a strike of lightning

Q

electron affinity

A

the tendency of a substance to hold onto electrons. turbo electric series allows us to predict the type of charge an object will possess/receive

17
Q

balloon example of static

A
  • wall and balloon are both neutral
  • rubbing the balloon an your head/human hair causes the electrons from the hair to transfer to the balloon. turning the balloon negatively charged and the hair positively charged.
  • move the balloon towards the wall and induction will occur and the positive charges will move towards the balloon
  • the surface of the walls will APPEAR positive
  • the balloon will attract to the wall and stick. opposite charges attract
18
Q

carpet on foot example

A

an electrical static discharge occurs, which is the passing of an electric current through the air from one negatively charged object to a positively charged object
