Meaning of the state
The state is derived from a greek word polis which means city or city states. In roman this is called civitas. The term state was introduced by nicolo Machiavelli in his book “the prince”

It is the machinery of the state. It governs over the people and maintains law and order

What is sovereignty
Sovereignty is the heart and soul of a state. It is the supreme power of the state. According to bodin “sovereignty is the supreme power over the citizens and subjects unrestrained by the law”.

What is internal sovereignty
It is the supreme power over the people, associations and everything within its territory. It maintains law and order and also social welfare of the people. It has the power to maintain the property and life of the people
External sovereignty
It implies independence or freedom of the state. It ensures that the state is externally independent and free to adopt its own foreign policy and international relations.
What is society
Society is a social system which consists of individuals, families, organized and unorganised institutions. According to max weeber society is a web of social relationships.
What is an association? Give an example
The association is an organised group of people which has some specific objectives and principles. Associations may be social, economic, religious, cultural etc
Eg: Rotary club , lions club
What is nation
Nation is an emotional concept. It is derived from the Latin word ‘natio’ which means people belonging to a common stock, race or blood relationship. It is the feeling of oneness among people which is deployed due to various reasons such as common history, religion, culture, language, political system etc
Importance of state.

Internal aspects: it implies the supreme power of the state over all people, associations and everything within its territory. It has power to maintain law and order and protect the life and property of people.
