Stanislavski Flashcards
What does Stanislavski believe in?
Realism.
What methods did Stanislavski use?
Realistically positioned props.
Fourth wall.
Three circles of attention.
What style theatre would Stanislavski be likely to use and why?
Stanislavski would be most likely to use would be the proscenium arch style theatre because it has one of the sides taken out so it suits in with the idea of the fourth wall.
What are the three circles of attention?
The three circles of attention are:
Solitude in public.
Physical action.
Improvisation.
What did Stanislavski do to get actors to be realistic?
He made them talk and have conversations if they were from that era.
What is the proscenium actually?
It is actually the dividing line between the actors and the audience. Frequently an arch is built on this line to accomodate a large curtain that is traditionally closed for scene changes.
What is the disadvantage of the proscenium arch style theatre?
It is harder to include the audience. The actors also find it harder to make the play totally naturalistic because they have to be aware of opening out to the audience.
What is the advantage of a proscenium arch style theatre?
It is easy to make realistic sets with the fourth wall removed so that the audience has the illusion of reality.
