Standards Flashcards
What is the difference between the flight lead and the Lead aircraft
The lead aircraft may be the “admin” lead, but the flight lead is the AC with the overall flight responsibility and is the first line entered in the schedule executor. FL is responsible for brief, execution, and debrief.
Which RM do you report?
The highest RM for the flight.
True/False: “Go” comm must be used pre-solo. “Push” comm may be used post-solo
True
T/F: All changes are assumed prime unless prefaced with AUX
True
Take Spacing visual signal
Open palm facing aft moved fore/aft. Wingman manuevers to 500-1500’ spacing in trail.
Respond to “2, cleared ATIS”
“Edge 12, up with ATIS Alpha”
Lead: “Go with ATIS Alpha”
“Runway, winds, altimeter, etc.”
During ITS Caution Danger, how does engine start up change?
Perform an individual start up, check ATIS, and be ready to taxi at check in time.
Give sample bullseye check and withing degrees and miles of navaid that 2 can respond “same”
“Viking bullseye check, 1 is 064 and 5.1”
If within 3 degrees and 1 NM, 2 can respond “same”
Power setting on interval takeoff
MAX until turning out of traffic
Formation change over fuel/time
750 lbs or 35 min as referenced from D/T page of GPS
If double blind, what should both members of the formation do with their squawk and TAS
set to ALT and ON to aid in reforming
Wingwork Standard Profile
Three leaves of WW on each side with a cross under in between. On the last leaf, direct the wingman to close trail
Close Trail standard profile
2 leaves ended with a reform left side
Echelon turn standard profile
1 180 degree turn
Rejoin standard profile
1 straight ahead
1 turning
If directed from extended trail, rejoin in the number 3 position
Extended trail standard profile
Two leaves of a modified lazy 8, a barrel roll, and an over the top maneuver (normally one leaf of a cloverleaf)
Comms for entry to extended trail from any basic formation position
"Ripper, next set extended trail level (1/2/3) for 2" "2" "Ripper 1 ready" "Ripper 2 ready" "Ripper go extended trail" "2" "Ripper 2, IN"
Tactical Standard Profile
Two delayed 90 degree turns, two delayed 45 degree turns, one hook turn, a cross turn, and a rejoin. After the completion of a cross turn, an auto-shackle will be performed.
T/F: A BD check will be performed, time and conditions permitting, before entering the pattern at the radar drop off point on all formation rides
TRUE
Formation split up sequence of radio calls
“Knife, Alpha check, 1 is 220, 35”
“2, same”
Formation ABORT call
“Ripper flight, Abort, abort abort”
Single aircraft aborting
“Ripper 1 aborting”
NORDO Deconfliction Plan after mid air collision
LOA HEB
Lower # Moa in shep I combined, odd throusand transition altitude, or A sector in shep II
Wingman takes Higher # MOA in Shep I, Even thousand transition altitude, or B sector MOA in shep II
Radio Failure/Blind rejoin
Rejoin point is center radial and center DME of assigned MOA and squawk 7600. Use TAS. Orbit at 30 degrees of left bank for the Flight Lead and 30 degrees of right bank for the wingman at 180 KNOTS
Nordo leaves at JOKER and functional aircraft at BINGO
Nordo altitudes
FL will orbit at 11,000 (low area) 15,000 continuous, and 17,000 (high area)
Wingman orbits at +/- 1000. Do not cross base altitude
Meaning of Visual
Can see aircraft in formation
No Joy
Cannot see aircraft outside of formation
Blind
Cannot see aircraft in formation
Shackle
One weave, a single crossing of flight paths, maneuver to adjust/regain formation parameters
