Standard Model of Matter Flashcards
What does the Standard Model of Matter state?
All particles in the universe are grouped into 3 families of particles:
1. 6 quarks, combined to form nucleons and other particles
2. 6 leptons
3. 5 force carrier particles
For each kind of matter particle,
there is a corresponding antimatter particle
What are fermions?
Fermions are a fundamental particle, which are divided into 2 groups called quarks and leptons.
What do quarks experience?
They experience all 4 fundamental forces
What are quarks held together called?
Hadrons
What are the hadrons held together by?
Strong nuclear force
What are baryons?
Hadrons wihch are made out of 3 quarks or 3 antiquarks
What are mesons?
Hadrons which are made of 1 quark and 1 antiquark
What do mesons consist of?
Quark and an antiquark and therefore all decay quickly.
What is the particle interaction between the electromagnetic force?
Photons
What is the p. interactions in the strong nuclear force?
Carried by particles called Gluons - the force glues quarks together to form hadrons and mesons
What is the weak force?
Weak force is usually beta decay.
