Harold- most powerful man on land with a Saxon moustache.
William- stalky and reddish haired leader

700 ships and 1000s of House corls (full time professional army) The Fyrd (part time soldiers who only worked a few months a year).
Why William not invade in Summer 1066?
Because the weather was too bad on the English Channel

Why did Harolds army win the Battle of Stamford Bridge?
Because the vikings were unprepared, they had no armour.The vikings forces were also spilt over the river.

The South Coast of Pevensey Bay on the 28th September 1066
What troops did William have in his army?
William had horses, that could head but, kick and bit (Calvary). The Norman’s also had archers

The pope supported William which means God was kind of on his side. He also had Mercenaries supporting him.

In Battle, 6 miles out of Hastings, on the 14th of October 1066
What is a shield wall?
A shield wall is when an army lock their shields (overlap them)
What tactics did William use to break the shield wall?
William broke the shield wall by getting his army to run down the hill to persuade Harolds army to follow them down the slope.
What happened to Harold in the Battle Of Hastings?
He died because he got shot by an arrow in the eye.
Why did the Normans win?
Harolds Saxon army was tired because they had just travelled 180 miles from Stamford Bridge where they fought the Vikings.
They also got persuaded to go down the hill so they did so.
