When was the first Five Year Plan under Stalin?
1928-1932
What were the main focuses for the first five year plan?
Industrialisation of heavy industries such as coal mines and steelworks. (115% rise in coal, 200% in steel and 335% in electricity)
What would happen to workers that did not meet their plans?
They would be dubbed as saboteurs and would either be publically humiliated or sent to the Gulag
What was the Stakhanovite movement?
Rewarding workers who worked exceptionally hard - idolising the works of Stakhanov who exceeded his quota for coal mined by mining over 14 times his target.
When was the second Five Year Plan under Stalin?
1933-1937
What were the main focuses for the second five year plan?
Continued growth of heavy industries,
Concentrated on new industries such as scientific research
Aimed to improve agriculture through providing machinery to farmers.
Promised more consumer goods (although this was a very low priority)
Give an example of a failure of the second five year plan
Some industries fell short of goals - oil fell short by 20 million tons despite the fact that overall output increased significantly.
