Staging Flashcards
What dose RHP stand for?
Restricted high place
What are the 2 types of staging?
Mobile- mounted on castors
Non mobile- fixed to hangar
In structure components, what are both the end frames at bottom and top?
Spigots at top allow end frames to fit together
Sockets receive end frame spigot or castors
What are castors made from?
Solid rubber or nylon
How far above the should the platform should the guests rail be?
3 foot (914mm) And 3foot 9inches (1143 min)
What dose a brace do?
Gives stability
It can be horizontal or inclined
What are platforms? And what must they be?
They are to provide flat and stable working surface.
Platform formed by securing resin bonded plywood to light allow tubular frames
How high must a toe bar be?
Must be at least 150mm or 6inch
What’s the difference between type 1 and type 2 buffers?
Type 2 has a carved groove along the length
In staging how often do you carry out scheduled maintenance?
3 monthly
What is a span?
Used when a longer working platform is required.
Span structures available in 3 widths
What is a closed hook and what type of latches are there ?
Fitted to guard rails, braces and outriggers , where positive locking is required.
Latches can be leaf spring or torsion spring
What is an open hook ?
Fitted to platforms where dislodgement is unlikely , no locking device
What is a collet ?
Externally tapered to suit end frame socket taper.
What are the 2 types of outriggers
Rectangular- available in 1 size
Curved - 2 sizes
What is the name given to the feature that provides stability and can be horizontal or Inclined ?
Bracing
If the platform overhangs the frame then what must be used ?
Closed hooks
What are the 2 sizes for cantilever platforms ?
Pattern 1- over hang 610mm (2ft) over the long face
Pattern 2- overhang 1220mm (4ft) over the short face
What is the purpose of buffers ?
Prevent risk of damage to aircraft when staging is being moved into position
What must you not do to an incomplete structure ?
Move it
Platforms must not be subjected to what type of loads ?
Impact
When must you carry out maintenance checks
Pre use inspection
Periodically and before start of work
After completion of a repair to structure
What must you check on staging ?
Warning notices and signs present Welded joints examined - no cracks Correct alignment of latch hook ends Correct engagement of sockets Contact of wheels onto the ground Lubrication of moving parts P
