Staging Flashcards
End-On
This type of staging is called “End-on” because the audience sits in front of the stage
Proscenium Arch
Proscenium Arch is similar to End-On but has an Arch going over the stage in which the audience look through
Apron
A small area is added to the front of the stage to create an “apron stage”, bringing performers closer to the audience
Thrust
For thrust staging, the stage extends into the audience, which ends up with the audience being situated at three sides next to the stage
Traverse
Traverse staging is when the audience sits at both sides of the stage in which the performing space is more narrow
Theatre-in-the-round
Theatre in the round is when the stage is circular and the audience are situated at all four sides
Arena
Arena staging is quite similar to theatre in the round in which the audience sit at all 4 sides of the stage. The only difference in Arena staging is that the stage is no longer round and goes back to a square or rectangular shape
Promenade
Promenade theatre is when both performers and audience move around the space
