Transitional Stage (3rd Stage)
sustained quiet reading, comprehend longer/advanced texts, spelling patterns to decode multi syllabic words
Instructional Stage (Strategies for Teaching)
teach text structures (main idea, etc), word morphology (affixes and roots), analysis (inference, drawing conclusions), graphic organizers, text evidence
Fluent Stage (4th Stage)
read complex texts accurately and quickly w/expression, locate key info, understand purpose for reading, evaluate text using evidence

complex, varied, abstract; highly developed plots and character development; descriptive and figurative language; deep analysis; rely on print

use of research tools, analyze layer of text (reread), exposure to technical vocabulary, analyze from multiple perspectives
