Top layer of skin is lost.
It may be a blister or a
little crater. It is often
pink and painful

stage 2 is more painful than stage 4 due to nerve damage

Deeper and goes into
the subcutaneous
(fatty)tissue. It can look
like a deep crater. The
tissue may be black,
infected or both.

affects the muscle,
tendons and bones
