Stages of life Flashcards
Nutritional requirements during pregnancy
Adolescence
Adults
Elderly
Pregnant women need to eat the right foods to stay deathly and strong. needed to increase the intake of nutrients. Protein is required for growth of the foetus and placenta.
the beasts also increase in size and need extra protein
Vitamins are needed to increase metabolic activity meaning the greater amounts of B group are needed.
Minerals- anemia is common during pregnancy meaning that their iron requirements a doubled, as they form new blood cells.
from ages 12 and on- Their nutritional demands increase to meet their requirements- this means intakes of vitamin and minerals like proteins, B-group vitamins, calcium and iron.
-energy requirements are higher in adolescence due to increase of BMR and often higher physical activity.
- once an individual has stopped growing, lower energy intake needed to prevent weight gain.
-Protein required building muscle tissue, during growth.
-demand B group vitamins because they are needed to release energy from proteins, lipids and carbs
Minerals- higher intakes particularly, calcium, phosphorus and iron provided for stronger bones. Iron is to supply increased volume of muscle mass.
19-70, Less requirements are needed yet vary
-women going through menopause will have a change up of requirements, Low iron wish of osteoporosis.
Elderly people experience a further reduction of BMR, energy must decrease for weight gain. Protein requirements increase slightly. Calcium of both men and women must be maintained to prevent disease like osteoporosis and anaemia.
