What is pre contemplation?
The user is not considering change, is aware of few negative consequences, and is unlikely to take action soon; “ignorance is bliss”, “sobriety is for quitters”
What are the stages of change?
Pre contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance , relapse
What is contemplation?
The user is aware of some pros and cons of substance abuse but feels ambivalent about change. This user is on the fence
What is preparation stage?
This stage begins once the user had decided to change and begins to plan steps toward recovery ; proper preparation prevents poor performance
What is the action stage?
The user tries new behaviors, but these are not yet stable. This stage involves the first active steps toward change.
What is maintenance stage?
The user establishes new behaviors in a long term basis; they are able to maintain the new status quo with increased confidence
What is relapse stage?
The client has experienced a recurrence of symptoms and must now cope with consequences and decide what to do next; SLIP
What treatment is needed for pre contemplation?
Linking problems and potential problems with substance use; educate on negative consequences of SA
What treatment is needed for contemplation stage?
Explore feelings about ambivalence and the conflicts between her SA and personal values; increase awareness of consequences and benefits of decreasing use
What treatment is needed for preparation stage?
Work on strengthening commitment ; options of txtment and help plan how to go about seeking txt
What treatment is needed for action plan?
Work on skills to maintain sobriety ; acknowledge accompanied feelings and experience as normal part of recovery

Needs help with relapse prevention; reassure, evaluate present actions and redefine long term sobriety maintenance plans

Explore what can be learns from the relapse; emphasize effort; support self efficacy
What is the recovering model?
Recovery from alcohol and drug problems is a process of change through which an individual achieves abstinence and improved health, wellness, and quality of life

Person driven, many pathways, holistic, peer support , relational, culture, addresses trauma, strengths/responsibility, respect, and hope
