- Skill acquisition - the teaching of techniques to use when the triggers for anger come, which could include self awareness that an anger-provoking situation is developing, self-talk to stop the aggressive reaction, and relaxation training

Third stage of AMT
A
- Application practice - creation of stressful situations that provoke anger so that the newly learned techniques can be applied. There is then an assessment of how the individual handles themselves
