Q

what begins to happen with children’s language? (IPMC)

A
  • irregular verbs and nouns (causes problems)
  • parataxis (repeated use of coordinating conjunctions like ‘and’) begins to be used.
  • multiple negation/double negatives (the presence of more than one negative in a particular sentence, the child cannot grasp that negatives cancel each other out)
e.g: ‘I won’t (will not) bake no cake.’
‘I can’t (cannot) go nowhere tonight.’
  • contractions (a shortened form of two words that are combined by omitting one or more letters and replacing them with an apostrophe. e.g. ‘do not’ can be shortened to ‘don’t’) begin to be used.
