Cues
Helps readers find their way in difficult and lengthy texts. There are 2 kinds: 1) thesis statement, 2) forecasting statement
Orienting statements
Operates as a cue by letting readers know which is the most important general idea among the writers ideas and observations
Thesis statement
Overviews the way a thesis will be developed
Forecast
Guides readers helping them follow your train of thought by connecting key words and phrases throughout a passage
Cohesive device
Pronouns refer to nouns that either precede or follow them and thus serve to connect phrases or sentences.
