What is UDHR?
Universal declaration of human right(1948): AN international document consisting of 30 articles that state all the rights that people have.
What is the referendum?
A compulsory nation-wide vote on proposed changes to the constitutions. The 1997 referendum was a significant win in the struggle of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander peoples.
What is the Assimilation policy?
Was a racist policy aiming to stamp out Indigenous culture and communities b forcibly removing Aboriginal children from their families and recruiting them into abusive institutions, restricting their freedoms.
What is meant by the term Terra Nulius
“land belonging to no one” was a legal doctrine that justifies British claim to Australia.
Define Cold war:
A period in geopolitical tension from 1947-1991 between US(capitalism) and USSR (communism)
Define communism:
A system where the government controls property and production, aiming for class equality.
Define Capitalism:
An economic system where individuals own property and businesses operate in a free market.
Define the US policy of containment:
Aimed to preventing the spread of communism worldwide, particularly in Eastern Europe and Asia.
What is the Truman doctrine?
Aimed to contain the spread of communism by providing economic and military assistance to those threatened by communism.
Define the US policy of roll back:
Involved actively attempting the eliminate communism from areas where it has already taken hold.
