Fluoxetine Positives and Negatives
Positives- long half life (no need to taper, no d/c symptoms, better for ? Compliance)
Negative- drug interactions (2D6 metabolism), apathy at a higher dose
Paroxetine positives and negatives
Positive- sedating (use in place of benzo)
Negative- short half life (discontinuation symptoms), sedating, pregnancy SEs ( persistent plum htn)
Sertraline positives and negatives
Positives- low pregnancy side effects, large dosage range, small doses for SAD
Negatives- more nausea, shorter acting
Citalopram positives and negatives
Positives- longer half life
Negatives- QTc prolongation over 40 mg, more weight gain and sedation
Escitalopram positives and negatives
Positives- fewer drug drug interactions, weight neutral
Negatives- shorter acting, nausea and vomiting
Fluvoxamine positives and negatives
Positives- OCD!!! Anxiety in kids
Negatives- not responsive for depression
Side effects of SSRIs
Nausea- transient
Sexual side effects (delayed ejaculation) perpetuating
Weight gain
Platelet dysfunction
SSRIs okay in renal disease
Prozac, Paxil, Lexapro
