Abdicate
Renounce one’s throne.
Fail to fulfill or undertake.
Ex. In 2007 King Thomas II abdicated from the throne.
Akin
Of similar character.
Ex. A human is akin to a monkey.
Altruism
The principle or practice of unselfish concern for or devotion to the welfare of others
Ex. Altruism becomes scarce when there is a shortage of money.
Androgynous
Partly male and partly female in appearance.
Ex. Thomas looked androgynous today with his new haircut.
Banal
To be so lacking in originality to be obvious and boring.
Ex. The same stories reworded quickly become banal.
Bellicose
Demonstrating roughness and willingness to fight.
Ex. Some soldier demonstrate bellicose during the war.
Bemoan
Express discontent or sorrow over something.
Ex. After a lost, people are usually bemoaned before going back to their usual selves.
Bombastic
Pompous but with little meaning.
Ex. Some people are really bombastic when they think they will win something.
Burgeon
Begin to grow and to increase rapidly.
Ex. Our company burgeoned over night.
Capitulate
Cease to resist an opponent or to unwelcome demand.
Ex. The birds had to capitulate to enemy forces.
Chagrin
Distress or embarrassment at having failed or been humiliated. Ex. Jonas was faced with deep chagrin after the whole class insulted him.
Coalesce
Come together and form one mass or whole.
Ex. The puddles had coalesced into large streams.
Congenial
Pleasant because of a personality, qualities, or interests that are similar to one’s own.
Ex. There are always those people who are congenial towards everybody,
Contrite
Feeling or expressing remorse or penitence; affected by guilt.
Ex. After lying to her friends, the girl was bitten with contrite.
Dawdle
Waste time; Be slow.
Ex. I cannot dawdle with my homework anymore.
