What were some problems with the Articles of Confederations?
Congress only had one vote per state, regardless of size, Congress didn’t have the power to tax, and it was very hard to amend the Constitution.
What was the Great Compromise?
It was created to make sure that all states had representation regardless of population.
What was the Virginia Plan?
It was the idea of three different branches of government (Legislative, Exectutive, and Judicial).
What was the New Jersey Plan?
Was made to give the small states the same amount of representation as the big states.
What does the Legislative Branch do?
Makes laws.
What does the Exectutive Branch do?
Enforces laws.
What does the Judicial Branch do?
Evaluates laws.
What is the Bill of Rights?
A document that has the first 10 amendments of the Constitution.
I Amendment
Freedom of speech, religion, expression, assembly, and right to petition.
II Amendment
Citizens have the right to bear arms.
III Amendment
No citizen needs to house soldiers in their home in a time of peace.
IV Amendment
People are protected against unreasonable searches of their personal property.
V Amendment
People have protection against incrimination an cannot be called in a case to be a witness against themselves.
VI Amendment
In criminal cases, accused citizens have the right to a quick public trial.
VII Amendment
During a lawsuit, when the amount sued exceeds $20 the accused and accuser have the right to a trial by jury.
