SS Net+ Ch1 Flashcards
What is a WAN? PG 8
Wide Area Network
What are 2 the difference between WAN and LAN?PG 8
WAN’s usually need a router.Wan’s usually span larger geographic area and/or can link disparate locations. We can choose how long we connect to a WAN connection where as LAN connections are all or nothing.
What is (MPLS)?PG 8-9
it is a switching mechanism that imposes labels (numbers) to data and then uses those labels to forwards data.
Whats the difference between Peer to Peer and Client-Server Network?PG 10-11
On Peer to Peer networks, computers do not have any central, or special, authority. The Authority lies in each computer. Meaning that each and every user within the network has to remember and maintain a list of username and passwords for each computer. Client-Server networks are the exact opposite, a single server can handle all the network security checks, among the network.
What’s the difference between Physical Topology of a network and logical topology of a network?PG 12
A physical topology of a networks can been seen as the physical lay of the land. Where as the logical shows how a digital signal or data travels through the layout.
What does a Bus topology consist of?PG 12
Its where a set of computers are connected together to one server, usually using one set of cables.
Whats is a Star Topology? PG 13
Its where all the computers on the network connect to a central hub or switch.
What is a Ring Topology?PG 14
It is where each computer is connected directly to each other within the network.
