What did the South think of this?
Southerners opposed tariffs because they believed tariffs would scare off foreign buyers of their goods and make the imported goods they needed more expensive.
Tariffs what did the North think of this?
The North had become industrialized, so having high tariffs on foreign products meant that people had to buy domestically, i.e. from the North so it benefitted big business
