There were three main US regions, North, South and West
Who was Martin Van Buren?
American politician, serves as eighth president. Buren sec. of state, strongest ally in jackson’s cabinet. Won election of 1836 and got blamed for panic of 1837
What was the kitchen cabinet?
Andrew Jackson’s group of informal advisors so called because they met in the kitchen.
Who was John C. Calhoun?
American statesman and political theorists, seventh vice president of the US. Sided with south during nullification crisis and tariff of abominations.
What was the Spoils System?
practice of giving them to unqualified people who voted for them in the election.
What is the democratic party?
a political party formed by supporters of Andrew Jackson after the election of 1824.
Who was Andrew Jackson?
Head of indian removal act, opposed the second bank of US. After the nullification crisis.
What was nominating conventions?
A meeting where a political party chooses its presidential and vice presidential candidate.
Who was Jacksonian Democracy?
Expansion of voting rights during the popular Andrew Jackson administration as nominating conventions.
What was the tariff of abominations?
Tariff was put in place so northern manufacturing could completely with that of britain.
What was the Hayne-Webster Debate?
Hayne began the debate in his chamber. He The Webster–Hayne debate was a famous debate in the United States between Senator Daniel Webster of Massachusetts and Senator Robert Y. Hayne of South Carolina that took place on January 19–27, 1830 on the topic of protectionist tariffs.
What was the Nullification Crisis?
The reductions were too little for South Carolina, and on November 24, 1832, a state convention adopted the Ordinance of Nullification, which declared that the Tariffs of 1828 and 1832 were unconstitutional and unenforceable in South Carolina after February 1, 1833.
What was the states’ right doctrine?
the belief that power of the states should be greater than the power of the federal government.
What was Jackson vs. the bank?
jackson didn’t always support greater federal power. he opposed the second bank of the US founded by congress. jackson believed the bank was unconstitutional extensions to the power of congress.
McCulloch vs. Maryland?
In McCulloch v. Maryland (1819) the Supreme Court ruled that Congress had implied powers under the Necessary and Proper Clause of Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution to create the Second Bank of the United States and that the state of Maryland lacked the power to tax the Bank.
