What caused the Roman Empire to fall?
It became too big to control and was split into two. Invasions by barbarian tribes, economic troubles, and corruption in the government led to the fall.
What was the significance of the Justinian Code?
It created fair laws for marriage, slavery, land/property and crime. Made for a better life and society.
How did Theodora influence Justinian?
She shamed Justinian into staying and fighting for power. She influenced Justinian in making fair laws including women’s rights.

Strong military with new weapons such as Greek Fire, strong economy, and fair government.
What was the Iconoclastic Controversy and how did it impact the church?
Iconoclastic Controversy was a conflict about the use of icons (religious images) in the church. It made the church weaker because of a split between the West and the East.
What were the differences between the church in the east and the church in the west?
The church in the west wanted to use icons because they could not read or write and needed images to learn about religion. The church in the east didn’t want icons because they thought that worshipping icons was the same as worshipping idols.
Why did the Byzantine Empire eventually fall?
After Justinian died, the military weakened and Constantinople was overtaken.
