What is the River Nile?
It is a river going through Egypt.
How many Niles are there? What is each one called?
The Nile begins as 2 rivers: the Blue Nile and the White Nile.
What is a delta?
The Nile runs through a large green valley and it’s water makes the land very fertile. That is what is called a delta, or “The Black Lands”.
What is a cataract and what is it’s purpose?
There are narrow cliffs and boulders in the Nile. When they form waterfalls, it creates a cataract. Because of the large cataracts, boats and ships can not travel down the whole Nile.
What is “The Gift of the Nile”?
Without the Nile, Egypt would only be a desert. It was used as a highway to trade and used to get water to bathe, cook, and drink.
What continent can I find Egypt?
Egypt is found in Africa.
What is the difference between the “Red” and “Black” lands?
The Black Land has fertile farming lands. The Red Land has a barren of deserts and it is a hot, arid area.
What is an oasis?
An area made fertile by a body of fresh water in hot, dry, and arid places.
What type of religion did the Ancient Egyptians adopt?
The Ancient Egyptians adopted the polytheistic religion.
What type of mathematics did the Ancient Egyptians create that we still use today?
The Ancient Egyptians created geometry.
What type of writing in pictures did the Ancient Egyptians use?
The Ancient Egyptians used Hieroglyphics.
Who was the “most important” political figure in Ancient Egypt?
The Pharaoh.
Explain two of the five characteristics that make Ancient Egypt unique.
- They believed in over 2,000 gods/goddesses, so they had a deity for just about everything.
- The cataracts protected them from attacks/invaders without the Egyptians having to use any complicated machines.
What is Mummification?
Mummification is the process in which a body is being prepared for burial.
What is a pyramid?
A structure the Ancient Egyptians built as a tomb in a pyramid shape for the important-ranked people.
