Squadron Flashcards
Crew Requirements 35
NEW STUFF
a. AW shall be embarked on all check/evaluation flights, and should be embarked on all flights scheduled into known IMC/night flights. This requirement is not intended to preclude pilots from accepting an IFR clearance if they encounter poor weather conditions. Cases requiring flights to be conducted without an AW shall be approved by the CO.
b. The minimum crew requirement for engaged turns shall be an H2P and a qualified observer. The qualified observer will read the checklist and guard the collective. The H2P shall occupy the right seat and the qualified observer shall have operable ICS.
** NEW **
c. Dedicated night TACFORM events should have two NVD qualified AW. If an AW is receiving a night TACFORM gradesheet, the event shall be flown with a NSI AW. Pilots may be substituted for aircrewman with CO/OIC approval. This requirement is intended for use during NVD tactical formation maneuver training and is not to preclude NVD tactical flights in section (Dual dip/GUNEX).
NOTE: AW may fly an event previously completed as the second AW without being fully qualified.
d. The minimum crew for CAL training or unapproved sites should be 2 AW in the cabin.
e. FCF training shall only be completed when the HAC is a designated FCP.
f. New check-in shall complete a check-in syllabus per reference (f)
g. All HSM-35 personnel shall receive FALL PREVENTION training prior to conducting operations on top of the aircraft.
h. MIDN shall sit in the left seat for orientation flights and AW should carry a pilot PCL.
Currency Requirements 35
NEW STUFF
a. Any aircrew who has not flown in 45 days shall fly a BITS flight with current aircrew.
b. ACTC LVL I AW should not dip without another dip current ACTC LVL II or greater AW.
c. AW dipping currency:
ACTC LVL II and below: 2 dips within 90 days
ACTC LVL III and above: 2 dips within 180 days
Recurrency: 2 dips with current AW
NOTE: AW dipping currency/recurrency may be achieved in an approved sim. AW recurrency in a sim shall include normal and EPs administered by a current AW. IF currency is regained in the sim, the next currency should be performed in the aircraft.
d. Pilots returning from deployment exceeding 90 days shall complete the following prior to assuming normal flight duties: 1. NZY/NRS/NFG/East County Area course rules brief 2. Course rules and Wing/Squadron exam 3. One EP OFT, One DAY FAM and One NIGHT FAM (a pilot shall not be scheduled for day flights until complete with the day FAM and shall not be scheduled for night flights until complete with the night FAM).
e. Prior to standing SAR duty, pilots shall be coupler, SAR, and night current
f. Currency for SACT training and LSF training will align with DRRS readiness. Rebase should occur with a current HAC to the max extent practicable.
Crew Rest Requirements
Pilots shall not be scheduled for flight the day after standing SDO/CDO. Aircrewman shall not be scheduled for a flight event the same day as standing a watch from 0000-0800.
Sonar Operations
NEW STUFF
a. Except for operational requirements, the use of active sonar is approved only on authorized ranges. The PIC shall adhere to current marine mammal mitigation procedures and ensure a SPORTS report is completed.
b. Prior to conducting dipping sonar ops, the crew shall review local bottom topography.
c. In order to conduct dipping sonar ops, the flight schedule shall be annotated as a DIP SORTIE or ASW range event.
d. To better improve CRM while troubleshooting ALFS malfunctions, pilots should ensure a minimum or 2 AW PCLS are in the aircraft for all events utilizing the dipping sonar. Pilots shall be familiar with procedures outlined in SONAR TROUBLESHOOTING checklist on page 9-1-1 through 9-1-3 of the AW PCL.
e. Actual dipping operations within the W-291 are limited to a maximum dome depth of 90 feet IAW C3F restrictions. Dipping operations in the IB Charlie dip area are authorized with a maximum dome depth of 250 feet. Dipping operations in the IB Alpha, Bravo, and Delta dip areas are prohibited. Dome depth of the final dip of the cycle shall be equal to or greater than the deepest depth in the cycle.
Performance Calculations
At a minimum, all flight events shall brief the following performance calculations: SE airspeed, DE continuous TRQ, SE contingency TRQ, HIGE, HOGE, C&R, and B/S for anticipated flight regimes.
Formation Flight
Crews should brief face to face to the max extent practicable. Briefing shall be conducted IAW the Wing SOP. This is not intended to preclude join-ups between embarked aircraft, assisting squadrons unfamiliar with the local area, or during emergencies.
LCS Pitch and Roll Limits
Refer to the LCS helo bill for traverse pitch and roll limits.
Mission System Grooming
The first crew of the day should complete the mission system grooming card and turn it into the MO following the flight. Incompleted items should be turned over to the following crews and all discrepancies shall be documented in a MAF.
Post-Mx Takeoff
Following any significant mx, the first takeoff to a hover should focus on aircraft control.
Required Hotseat Turnover Items
THIS ONE IS NEW
The off-going HAC shall include status of exceedances, last max power check, HIT checks (if not previously recorded in ADB), and any other aircraft degradations in their turnover with the oncoming HAC.
Post-Flight Integrity Checks
THIS ONE IS NEW
In the shipboard environment, the off-going H2P and aircrewman should conduct a post-flight integrity check with particular emphasis on popped fasteners with the best available light source prior to refueling. Missing, broken, or unfastened corner fasters should be corrected as soon as practicable.
Fuel Planning
THIS ONE IS NEW
Fuel in AUX tanks should not be considered for fuel planning. Crews should manually transfer fuel at 3,800 pounds on the fuel totalizer or communicate to crew intentions for fuel in the AUX tanks.
Midshipman Operations
In addition to conducting the “qualified observer checklist” in the PCL, MIDN shall complete training on the following prior to an orientation flight:
- cyclic/collective trim switches and usage
- attitude gyro/airspeed/altitude indicator location and usage
- PCL location and usage during EPs
- ICS switch location and usafe
- collective retraction
- egress procedures
Minimum Equipment
In addition to NATOPS and the Wing SOP, the following are prohibited without a fully operable RADALT:
- training flights at night
- coupled hovers
- practice CAL/LZ training
APU Exhaust Fire Procedures
Possible change “sound judgement, should consider”
If a fire is observed coming from the APU exhaust but the APU fire T handle is not illuminated, using sound judgement, the pilots should consider leaving the APU running and monitor the APU fire T handle.
If the fire spreads outside of the APU exhaust section (APU fire T handle illuminated), then the APU fire EP shall be completed, the fire guard shall discharge the extinguisher, and the aircrew shall evacuate the aircraft.
