Crew Requirements 35

NEW STUFF

A

a. AW shall be embarked on all check/evaluation flights, and should be embarked on all flights scheduled into known IMC/night flights. This requirement is not intended to preclude pilots from accepting an IFR clearance if they encounter poor weather conditions. Cases requiring flights to be conducted without an AW shall be approved by the CO.

b. The minimum crew requirement for engaged turns shall be an H2P and a qualified observer. The qualified observer will read the checklist and guard the collective. The H2P shall occupy the right seat and the qualified observer shall have operable ICS.
** NEW **
c. Dedicated night TACFORM events should have two NVD qualified AW. If an AW is receiving a night TACFORM gradesheet, the event shall be flown with a NSI AW. Pilots may be substituted for aircrewman with CO/OIC approval. This requirement is intended for use during NVD tactical formation maneuver training and is not to preclude NVD tactical flights in section (Dual dip/GUNEX).
NOTE: AW may fly an event previously completed as the second AW without being fully qualified.

d. The minimum crew for CAL training or unapproved sites should be 2 AW in the cabin.
e. FCF training shall only be completed when the HAC is a designated FCP.
f. New check-in shall complete a check-in syllabus per reference (f)
g. All HSM-35 personnel shall receive FALL PREVENTION training prior to conducting operations on top of the aircraft.
h. MIDN shall sit in the left seat for orientation flights and AW should carry a pilot PCL.

c. In order to conduct dipping sonar ops, the flight schedule shall be annotated as a DIP SORTIE or ASW range event.
d. To better improve CRM while troubleshooting ALFS malfunctions, pilots should ensure a minimum or 2 AW PCLS are in the aircraft for all events utilizing the dipping sonar. Pilots shall be familiar with procedures outlined in SONAR TROUBLESHOOTING checklist on page 9-1-1 through 9-1-3 of the AW PCL.
e. Actual dipping operations within the W-291 are limited to a maximum dome depth of 90 feet IAW C3F restrictions. Dipping operations in the IB Charlie dip area are authorized with a maximum dome depth of 250 feet. Dipping operations in the IB Alpha, Bravo, and Delta dip areas are prohibited. APU Exhaust Fire Procedures

Possible change “sound judgement, should consider”

A

If a fire is observed coming from the APU exhaust but the APU fire T handle is not illuminated, using sound judgement, the pilots should consider leaving the APU running and monitor the APU fire T handle.

If the fire spreads outside of the APU exhaust section (APU fire T handle illuminated), then the APU fire EP shall be completed, the fire guard shall discharge the extinguisher, and the aircrew shall evacuate the aircraft.

Q

Chocks

A

Chocks shall be removed prior to resetting the struts or conducting high power evolutions.

Chocks should be utilized on all CCX and out and in flights.

17
Q

Tailwheel Lockpin

A

An operable tailwheel lockpin is required for shipboard operations. The following should not be attempted during training flights with an inoperable tailwheel lockpin: running landings, boost off landings, and landings to an unprepared surface. All other maneuvers shall be thoroughly briefed by the crew to include an ORM assessment of the impact of degraded equipment.

18
Q

Wash Rack Use

A

The aircraft wash rack should be utilized after shipboard operations, over water hovering, landings to an unprepared surface or anytime the cleanliness of the aircraft degrades visibility.

Prior to taxiing through the wash rack, ensure that the transmission drip pan, sonobuoy cover, and cargo hook cover are installed and all scuppers closed. The HAC shall minimize direct water spray into the MTS and RADALT antennas.

Do not taxi through the wash rack with the following ordnance installed: M299, Torps, sonobuoys, and chaff/flare buckets. Taxi through the wash rack with IRCMs installed is authorized.

19
Q

Hot Seat Shutdown

A

HACs may hot seat the aircraft prior to shutdown. A pilot’s walkaround inspection of the aircraft may be used in lieu of a TA inspection if the time between shutdown and start up is not INTENDED to exceed 2 hours.

20
Q

Hot Refueling Ashore

A

The aircraft shall not be fueled with countermeasure buckets installed unless electrical power has been removed from the aircraft and the aircraft has been shutdown.

21
Q

ECS Operations

A

In high humidity environments, co-pilot forward ECS vent/blower should be positioned as required to prevent damage to the trackball due to water intrusion.

22
Q

Hand and Light Signals

A

shall be per reference (g)

23
Q

Maintenance Personnel Working Hours

A

While ashore, Magicians should not be scheduled for more than 12 hours and shall not be scheduled for more than 14 hours of continuous work to include watch. The CO may waive these provisions during emergencies or periods of advanced readiness. The MO should be notified if home guard maintenance shifts will exceed 11 hours. The CO shall be notified if shift length will exceed 12 hours.

24
Q

Functional Checkflights

A

Following any significant mx and during the first takeoff of an FCF, the first lift into a hover should occur with the entire flight crew focused on aircraft control. Once flight worthiness is determined the crew should land and continue with the appropriate checklist.

25
Q

SO Window

A

The SO window may be removed at the aircrew’s discretion to aid the AW in clearing the aircraft of obstacles during CAL/LZ flights. The SO window shall be installed by authorized mx personnel. Qualified AW may temporarily install the window as necessary in order to utilize the hot pits and wash rack.

26
Q

Blade De-Ice Panel

A

The Blade De-Ice Panel (if installed) should be checked AUTO and OFF during prestart checks and anytime mx is done in the aircraft tunnel.

27
Q

FIRST DIP

** NEW **

A

Upon completion of major ALFS mx necessitating first dip per the Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM), a mx dip should be conducted in daylight hours whenever operational requirements allow in compliance with NATOPS. In the shipboard environment, ORM should be conducted by the OIC with emphasis on sea state, divert operations, and reference to a visible horizon.

28
Q

Detachment Checklist

** NEW **

A

Det fly-offs and fly-ons should utilize the Det Aircraft Fly-On checklist in the Wing SOP for loading cargo inside the aircraft.

29
Q

CAL/LZ

A

In order to conduct CAL/LZ training to an unprepared surface the flight schedule shall be annotated “CAL/LZ”

30
Q

Simulated Emergencies

A

The APU shall be turned on for practice autorotations and single engine training.

Non-emergency use of the backup and emergency raise modes of the ALFS is prohibited.

In the shipboard environment, simulated emergencies or intentional degradations are prohibited.

31

32
Q

HAC Training

A

The minimum number of embarked days / deck landings should be 100 / 100 for HAC designation. These provisions may be waived by the CO.

33
Q

Single Engine to A Spot

A

Prior to SE to a spot training, a steep approach to a no hover shall be conducted and the torque required to conduct a safe approach will be noted by the PNAC. During SE to a spot training power available shall be no less than determined above. Either with one engine pulled back or both engines in FLY.

34
Q

Single Engine HOGE

A

Max SE HOGE training shall be limited to 18,500 pounds.

35
Q

Autorotations

A

Aircraft gross weight weight for autorotations should be less than 19,500 pounds. Crews should consider winds, DA, crew proficiency, recovery altitude, and warmup maneuvers prior to initiating practice autos particularly in a known heavy aircraft or light wind environment.
