What do you look at while surveying?
Headings, pictures, questions, special print, introduction and conclusion, and footnotes.
What are you supposed to do while reading?
Actively read. Search for answers. Focus on one section at a time. Connect images to the text.
How do you respond?
Without looking at text, summarize in your own words. Recite answers aloud. Answer your question. Rework your question.
What do you do if you can’t answer your questions?
Reread until you can, change your question, or make a note for future study.
How do you record?
Write notes in own words.
Understand before you record.
Why do you survey the text?
To establish purpose and find main ideas.
